Reaction Artical (Teen Smoking Rates Decline)

According to Roni Caryn Rabin in “Teen Smoking Rates Decline,” the smoking rates of high-school students dropped down from 13.6% last year to 12.6% this year. Furthermore, more and more adolescents think of smoking as a dirty habit and say they disapproved of smoking. It means that more and more adolescents’ concept changed.

I think it is an enormous change, because it is the first time that smoking rates dropped down greatly. The reporter said that for years and years, many people think that smoking can make them sexy and attractive to the opposite sex. Isn’t it ridiculous? Having some cigarettes a day can let you have cancer a few years latter. It is obviously not beneficial. Moreover, smoking harms not only yourself but your family, friends and everyone around you. According to many researches, secondhand smoking makes us have more opportunity to have the lung cancer. Smoking is not sexy! I’ve asked lots of my friends about smoking. They all said that smoke is bad to smell; and the garbage of cigarettes is also a big problem to the society.

To prevent adolescents from cigarettes, governments should take some policies. For example, forbid minority buying cigarettes; plane more public places which can’t allow smoking. Schools and parents should also teach their students and children not to smoke. Decreasing the smoking rates needs everyone’s effort. Building an environment without smoke is our obligation.
