Reaction Article (Drugs in Portugal: Did Decriminalization Work?)

It is great that Portugal’s decriminalizing drug possession success in some ways. For other countries, they may not enforce this proposal because their countries’ size and culture are different from Portugal’s. For Portuguese, this law may be good for them since illegal drug use among teens and HIV infections dropped a lot. For these two phenomena, Portuguese should be happy for their government’s wisdom. However, I think decriminalizing drug possession can also provoke some bad phenomena. Since everyone can possess drug like marijuana, cocaine and heroin, the country’s labor rate may decrease and the atmosphere in the country probably become weird because a lot of people are in their illusions.

Maybe every country’s government can pass the law, but they should analyze their people’s thoughts and whether proper or not. After all, people may worry about the bad consequences, such as the increasing rate of robbery, suicide and murder. For instance, some people will choose robbery to have money to buy drugs; others may take suicide because of the illusion drugs causing, and the others will kill their parents or friends just for money. These horrible consequences should be taken into mind seriously, or once the law publish, everything will become a mess. (219 words)
